Work has taken over my thoughts and life for the past few months. There was a National Prize Show to put on! My friend Noelly, AKA Noelle Fiori, was accepted into the show! (Second Image below was accepted).

Her work is so kick ass. I have been watching Noelle create art since we were in high school. My favorite piece is still this watercolor peacock she made… Or this awesome acrylic green self portrait. It was the type of piece you saw and thought, “Damn it!! Why didn’t I think of that?”
What I really love about Noelle’s artwork NOW is that its feminine but really aggressive. Before she started to focus on physically cutting and collaging images of women, she was using live models and drawing this physical exhaustion and battle of being a WO-MAN!

Being Noelle’s friend for so long, I feel like I can look at her art and say, “Oh My God, I KNOW!” but her themes are so universal, every single woman has had a day where (above) is exactly how they felt. In Noelle’s own words:
“I am searching to convey a specifically feminine experience, both that of being subjected to physical scrutiny, and the viewing of the body as a compilation of fragmented pieces. Contorted “women” are created by reconfiguring appropriated images from mass culture. The collage exposes models’ thin arms, sun-kissed stomachs, and lengthy legs, which twist and break in on themselves. These sexualized, exploited “objects” become grotesque creatures. With my own photographs and magazine clippings I am hoping to invoke a seductively chaotic, disturbing experience.”
You would be a fool not to look at her other works HERE.
